Early into its development, a new Cinderella is already shocking fans. The classic fairytale princess, who was made most famous by Disney with its 1950 film, will get a new horror film based on her story as Bloody Disgusting broke the news that ChampDog Films is crafting a horror film titled Cinderella’s Curse.
The project comes not far after the success of cult films like Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey and The Mean One, which twisted classic children’s stories into a gory horror fest. It proved well as both films made a splash with the horror community, and Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey even saw a theatrical run.
Cinderella’s Curse, coming from filmmaker Louisa Warren, will star Kelly Rian Sanson, Chrissie Wunna, and Danielle Scott. Warren is a relatively prolific independent horror filmmaker with 42 directorial credits. Her work twisting the tale of Cinderella could be her most significant work.
Warren tells Bloody Disgusting, “This an incredibly unique spin on the Cinderella we all love and know. There are going to be some truly horrific deaths by her hands.” She adds that gory horror movie lovers will enjoy this: “I think the gore hounds are in for a treat in my dark retelling.”
ITN Studios will be releasing the film in October 2023.
