Back in February it was announced that Warner Bros. and Amblin Entertainment were in development on an animated Gremlins TV series for the WarnerMedia streaming service, and now comes word that a 10-episode series order has been granted to Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai.
A prequel to the classic 1984 movie and its 1990 sequel, Secrets of the Mogwai has been created by Tze Chun (Gotham, Once Upon a Time) and will focus on the early life of Mr. Wing, the owner of the Chinatown antique shop, and his first adventure with Gizmo as a 10-year-old boy in 1920s Shanghai.
As per Deadline, the series description reads: “Along with a teenage street thief named Elle, Sam Wing and Gizmo take a perilous journey through the Chinese countryside, encountering, and sometimes battling, colorful monsters and spirits from Chinese folklore. On their quest to return Gizmo to his family and uncover a legendary treasure, they are pursued by a power-hungry industrialist and his growing army of evil Gremlins.”
Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai is the latest original series to receive the greenlight for WarnerMedia, joining the likes of Dune: The Sisterhood and Tokyo Vice.
