Marvel Studios’ space opera Guardians of the Galaxy continues to do well in China, and has now become Marvel’s third highest-grossing film behind The Avengers and Iron Man 3, surpassing this year’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier at the worldwide box office.
Guardians has now grossed $733 million worldwide, placing it in fourth place at the 2014 box office, behind X-Men: Days of Future Past, Maleficent and Transformers: Age of Extinction. It definitely stands a chance now of passing both Days of Future Past and Maleficent, which have grossed $746M and $757M domestically.
So much for the titular group of outlaws-turned-heroes being a “risky” bet for the studio, eh?
