Lionsgate has set the date for Guy Ritchie’s next action-comedy film The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare starring Henry Cavill (The Witcher), Eiza González (Baby Driver) and Alan Ritchson (Reacher). It has been given a Spring release for April 19th, 2024.
The film is based on the 2014 non-fiction novel The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare: How Churchill’s Secret Warriors Set Europe Ablaze and Gave Birth to Modern Black Ops written by Damien Lewis. Based on true events from World War II, it follows a clandestine special-ops group formed by then-Prime Minister Winston Churchill which also included James Bond creator and author Ian Fleming, who is said to have based much of his 007 adventures on his own experiences throughout the war. The groups success ultimately laid out the blueprint for British SAS special forces and the techniques black ops teams have used for decades.
Ritchie wrote the screenplay with Paul Tamasy, Eric Johnson, and Arash Amel. He is producing alongside Jerry Bruckheimer, Chad Oman, Ivan Atkinson, and John Friedberg.
Starring alongside Cavill, González and Ritchson are Alex Pettyfer (I Am Number Four), Henry Golding (Crazy Rich Asians), Cary Elwes (Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One), Hero Fiennes Tiffin (The Woman King), Babs Olusamokun (Star Trek: Strange New Worlds), Henrique Zaga (Nancy Drew) and Til Schweiger (Inglorious Basterds).
Based upon recently declassified files of the British War Department and inspired by true events, THE MINISTRY OF UNGENTLEMANLY WARFARE is an action-comedy that tells the story of the first-ever special forces organization formed during WWII by UK Prime Minister Winston Churchill and a small group of military officials including author Ian Fleming. The top-secret combat unit, composed of a motley crew of rogues and mavericks, goes on a daring mission against the Nazis using entirely unconventional and utterly ‘ungentlemanly’ fighting techniques. Ultimately their audacious approach changed the course of the war and laid the foundation for the British SAS and modern Black Ops warfare.”
The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare will be released on April 19th, 2024.
