Netflix has tapped Hailee Steinfeld (Pitch Perfect 2, The Edge of Seventeen) to star in the music drama Idol, which she will also produce alongside Matt Reeves (War for the Planet of the Apes) through his 6th & Idaho production company.
Variety reports that Idol has been scripted by Matt King and follows a young woman who becomes an assistant for a popular singer and then tries to become her.
Oscar nominee Steinfeld is set to lend her voice to Gwen Stacy in Sony’s animated Marvel movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and also stars alongside John Cena in the Transformers spinoff Bumblebee, both of which are set for release in December.
