Oscar-winner Halle Berry is set to star in the upcoming thriller Mother Land from Crawl and The Hills Have Eyes director Alexandre Aja and Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps Entertainment – who are best known for producing Netflix’s Stranger Things and co-producing Denis Villeneuve’s Arrival.
Mother Land is set to follow the story of a mother and her twin sons who an evil spirit has tormented for years. When one of the boy’s questions whether the evil is real, the family’s sacred bond is broken, and it becomes a fight for survival.
The film will be produced by Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen, Dan Levine, and Aja with Berry and Holly Jeter serving as executive producers. The script has been written by Kevin Coughlin and Ryan Grassby. Production is expected to begin next year with international sales launching this month in Cannes.
Lionsgate’s Production President Erin Westerman said: “We’re so thrilled to be working again with Halle and Alex. Halle is a force on screen – she’s the perfect person to convey the psychological terror of this mother trying to protect her family. And who better than Alex to ratchet up the tension. Powerhouse producers 21 Laps are going to deliver an elevated thriller that will keep audiences on the edge of their seat.”
