The live-action Halo series has switched homes as Deadline reports it has moved from Showtime to Paramount’s streaming service Paramount+.
Production on the series shut down last year due to the ongoing health crisis, but it recently picked back up and is filming in Budapest with an eye for an earl 2022 premiere. It is being produced by Steven Spielberg and Amblin Television alongside Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey. Kiki Wolfkill, Frank O’Connor and Bonnie Ross will executive produce for 343 Industries.
“It delivers the visceral excitement of playing the game, along with a much deeper emotional experience around the Spartans, human beings who got their humanity chemically and genetically altered,” said David Nevins, Chief Creative Officer, CBS & Chairman and CEO, Showtime Networks. “The story is about reclaiming what makes them human, and therefore it’s a very powerful story. We were on the hunt for signature shows beyond the Star Trek franchise on CBS All Access and were thinking, what could be a defining series for Paramount+. Halo always fit the bill but seeing it, we felt it would work.”
Kyle Killen (Lone Star) and Steven Kane (The Last Ship) are serving as showrunners on Halo, with Otto Bathurst (Peaky Blinders) directing and Pablo Schreiber (American Gods) taking on the lead role as the series’ iconic protagonist Master Chief.
Halo is set in the 26th century, and revolves around a conflict between humanity and the alien threat known as the Covenant. The show will weave deeply drawn personal stories with action, adventure and a richly imagined vision of the future.
The series is slated to premiere in early 2022 and stars Pablo Schreiber (American Gods) as Master Chief, Natascha McElhone (Designated Survivor) as Dr. Catherine Halsey, Jen Taylor (Halo) as Cortana, Bokeem Woodbine (Spider-Man: Homecoming) as Soren-066, Danny Sapani (Killing Eve) as Captain Jacob Keyes, Olive Gray (Save Me)as Dr. Miranda Keyes, Shabana Azmi (Neerja) as Admiral Margaret Parangosky, Bentley Kalu (Avengers: Age of Ultron) as Vannak-134, Natasha Culzac (The Witcher) as Riz-028 and Kate Kennedy (Catastrophe) as Kai-125.
