Hammer Films and Legendary Pictures are taming for a feature film adaptation of the classic British sci-fi property Quatermass, which is being scripted by David Farr (The Night Manager).
Quatermass was created by writer Nigel Kneale and follows Professor Bernard Quatermass, a scientist heading up the British Experimental Rocket Group who battles to save humanity from extraterrestrial threats.
The character first appeared in a trio of BBC sci-fi serials in the 1950s, which are regarded as a precursor to Doctor Who. Hammer was also responsible for adapting the series for the big screen, releasing The Quatermass Xperiment, Quatermass 2 and Quatermass and the Pit.
The new film is being produced by Hammer’s Simon Oakes (The Woman in Black, Let Me In), who has been looking to revive the property since 2012.
