Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters director Tommy Wirkola has announced that he will not be returning to helm the film’s upcoming sequel, which is slated to hit theaters sometime in 2016.
The Norwegian director broke the news himself in a recent interview with Fangoria:
“I’ve decided to not direct Hansel & Gretel 2. I have been lately attached to a few more things, it’s just a matter of time and priorities. I did Dead Snow 1, then Hansel & Gretel 1, then Dead Snow 2. I want to do something different now and not just do sequels. I did write the script and I hope to be involved in it. But yeah, I won’t be directing it.”
You can’t really blame Wirkola for wanting to do something different for his next project, and I bet that he was just as surprised as we were when Hansel & Gretel 2 got the green light from Paramount.
So, now the question is, who will take over? Sound off with your theories in the comments below…
