Karate Kid director Harald Zwart has signed on to direct the upcoming action film Rally Car from Chinese production companies Fundamental Films and Company Films.
The project has been written by Jeremy Lott (Spy Kids) and will star Keanu Reeves (John Wick) as “a hot shot former champion NASCAR driver who doesn’t want to believe his glory days are behind him. When his professional and personal life begin to spiral out of control, he’s forced to take part in a high stakes international rally race across the face of China, with a young Chinese girl as his co-driver, in order to prove he’s still the accomplished racer he thinks he is.”
This marks Reeves’ second collaboration with Fundamental and Company, with the actor also set to star in the sci-fi thriller Replicas from director Tanya Wexler (Hysteria), where he plays a scientist obsessed with bringing back his family members who died in a traffic accident. It will go into production after Reeves finishes up with the action sequel John Wick 2, which is shooting now.
