WB Games and Pokemon Go developer Niantic Inc. have released their latest augmented reality game, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, on iOS and Android. The game was originally scheduled to release tomorrow (Friday 21st June) but it looks like there has been a mix up with owls as fans can now start collecting magical artifacts and joining together to combat dangerous magical foes. To celebrate the launch, a new trailer has been released showing what dangers could be lurking.
Harry Potter: Wizards Unite allows players to realise their magical potential following a disaster in the wizarding world that has caused artefacts, people and even creatures to mysteriously appear in the muggle world. These artefacts, known as “Foundables”, need to be returned to their rightful place and as a new recruit of the Statute of Secrecy Task Force, it is up to players to seek them out.
In a way similar to Pokemon Go, players will explore the world around them but instead of wild Pokemon there will be traces of magic that may lead to a Foundable. These items are much more likely to be found near busy real world buildings such as parks, libraries, monuments etc. and once returned to the Wizarding world, players will earn unique rewards.
Players will be able to cast spells at a cost of Spell Energy, however, this can be topped up by collecting food and drink at Inns located at various Muggle locations. There are also ingredients around that can be used to brew potions, Portkeys to travel to iconic wizarding world locations and different magical professions to specialise in, including Auror, Magizoologist and Professor.
Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is available on Google Play and the App Store.
