Although the part ultimately went to Alden Ehrenreich, a new report claims that One Direction performer Harry Styles was originally considered for the coveted role of a young Han Solo in the upcoming Star Wars spinoff film.
An “insider” tells Metro UK “Harry was one of the early names in contention when the studio looked at Han Solo. Even though he had virtually no acting experience, they saw he had huge star potential and would give the solo project enormous publicity.”
Apparently, Harry could not be locked down as his singing career would have frequently collided with working on the films, but Disney are still eager to work with him on a project one day, with the aforementioned insider saying: “There has been talk at Disney about having him come in again for other projects they are considering.”
Styles can be seen in theaters this summer in Christopher Nolan’s World War II survival film Dunkirk. Let us know in the comments below if you would have liked to have seen him as Han Solo….
Han Solo hits theaters on May 25th, 2018 and also stars Alden Ehrenreich (Hail, Caesar!) as the famous smuggler, Donald Glover (Atlanta) as Lando Calrissian, Woody Harrelson (War for the Planet of the Apes) as Beckett (Solo’s mentor), Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca and Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag) as a droid. Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones), Thandie Newton (Westworld), Ian Kenny (Sing Street) and Michael K. Williams (The Night Of) have been cast in unrevealed roles. The film is being directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, best known for helming 21 Jump Street and The LEGO Movie.
