Having acquired the property from Saban Brands for a half billion dollars back in 2017, Hasbro announced last year that it was looking to reboot the Power Rangers franchise on the big screen, and now Deadline brings official word that a new movie is in development.
Jonathan Entwistle, creator of the acclaimed series The End of the F***ing World, is set to direct the new film, which has been scripted by Patrick Burleigh (Peter Rabbit 2) and will be produced by Hasbro’s Allspark Pictures. Paramount Pictures, who works with Hasbro on the Transformers and G.I. Joe franchises, will distribute.
Launching in 1993 as Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Power Rangers has ran for almost 900 episodes, while the series spawned the feature films Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie in 1995 and Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie in 1997.
Lionsgate also brought Power Rangers to the big screen back in 2017, although the film underperformed at the box office, putting an end to plans for a five-film series.
