It looks like the Power Rangers may be joining the Disney+ line-up, as The Wrap has revealed that Hasbro has set Percy Jackson and the Olympians showrunners Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz to develop a live-action Power Rangers series reboot for the streamer.
According to the trade, the potential series “will reinvent the franchise for a whole new generation of fans while delighting those who already know and love the world of Power Rangers“.
The new project marks Hasbro’s second attempt at rebooting the series after acquiring the property from Saban back in 2018, with the toy giant having previously tapped The End of the F***ing World creator Jonathan Entwistle to develop both a film and TV reworking that ultimately failed to come to fruition.
The Power Rangers franchise launched back in 1993 under its original incarnation Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, and has since spanned 30 seasons across 22 different iterations. It also spawned two feature films – 1995’s Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie and 1997’s Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie – along with the big-budget 2017 feature film reboot Power Rangers from Lionsgate, which stumbled at the box office.
