After the recent castings of Jeremy Irons and Tom Mison, you’d think the roster for the pilot for HBO’s Watchmen would be complete, but you’re wrong. Variety has reported Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (The Get Down) and Sara Vickers (Shetland) are now the latest to join the pilot.
Like the majority of their fellow cast, their roles for the pilot are unknown. This will not be the first comic book property Abdul-Manteen has starred in as he’ll be seen later this year in the villainous role of Black Manta in James Wan’s Aquaman.
Vickers, meanwhile, is best known for her role as Joan Thursday in the Inspector Morse prequel series Endeavour and is coming off the latest season.
Abdul-Manteen and Vickers join a cast that includes Don Johnson (Miami Vice), Tim Blake Nelson (The Incredible Hulk), Louis Gossett Jr. (Roots), Adelaide Clemens (The Great Gatsby), Andrew Howard (Limitless), Jeremy Irons (Justice League), Tom Mison (Sleepy Hollow), Frances Fisher (Titanic) and Jacob Ming-Trent (White Famous) with Damon Lindelof (Lost) serving as executive producer.
The Watchmen series will not be a straight adaptation of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ seminal comic book epic, but is said to be an original story taking place after the events of the graphic novel.
