Deadline has revealed that the iconic Japanese brand Hello Kitty is heading to the big screen in 2019.
Japanese company Sanrio is set to finance and produce the feature film through its new U.S. subsidiary, and is planning a whopping $160 million – $240 million budget for the project. At this point, it’s unclear whether it will be an animated movie, or live-action.
Launching in 1975, the Hello Kitty brand has grown into a global marketing phenomenon worth a reported $7 billion per year.
