Hemlock Grove’s Penelope Mitchell joins Hellboy

September 1, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Deadline is reporting that The Vampire Diaries and Hemlock Grove actress Penelope Mitchell has joined the cast of Lionsgate’s Hellboy reboot, and is set to play Ganeida, “an elder witch who has decided that Nimue’s wrath has gone on for too long and must be stopped.”

Hellboy is being directed by Neil Marshall (Game of Thrones), with Stranger Things star David Harbour taking on the lead role alongside Ian McShane (American Gods) as Professor Broom, Sasha Lane (American Honey) as Alice Monaghan and Milla Jovovich (Resident Evil) as the Queen of Blood.

Mitchell’s casting follows quickly on from the departure of Ed Skrein (Deadpool), who dropped out of the project earlier this week due to the whitewashing controversy surrounding his casting as the Asian character Major Ben Daimio.

Hellboy is set to begin production this month, and is slated to arrive in cinemas at some point in 2018.
