Deadline is reporting that Justice League and The Witcher star Henry Cavill is in talks for a lead role in Lionsgate’s long-gestating reboot of the Highlander franchise.
The film is being directed by John Wick helmer Chad Stahelski, who signed on to the project back in 2016. Specific plot details are being kept under wraps, and it is unclear at this point whether Cavill is being eyed for the main protagonist role or that of another character.
Released in 1986, the original Highlander starred Christopher Lambert as Connor MacLeod, an immortal locked in an ages-old battle with other immortal warriors to claim the Prize. Sean Connery portrayed Connor’s mentor Ramírez, with Clancy Brown as the ruthless villain The Kurgan.
The Highlander remake has been in development for over a decade now, with Justin Lin (Star Trek Beyond), Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later) and Cedric Nicolas-Troyan (The Huntsman: Winter’s War) all on board to direct at points and Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds previously attached to the role of Connor MacLeod.
