Having cast newcomer Daniel Quinn-Toye earlier this month, Amazon MGM has now added some star power to its live-action Voltron movie with THR reporting that Henry Cavill is set to topline the anime adaptation.
Based on the 80s series Voltron: Defender of the Universe (itself adapted from the Japanese series Beast King GoLion and Kikou Kantai Dairugger XV), the movie is being directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber (Red Notice) from a script he’s written with Ellen Shanman.
Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the original series follows the ‘Voltron Force’, five young pilots who command robot ‘Lions’ that can combine into the giant warrior Voltron, as they seek to protect the planet Arus from King Zarkon and his evil minions.
Having bid farewell to his roles as Superman in the DCEU and Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’s The Witcher, Henry Cavill is enjoying a busy 2024 having starred in the spy action comedies Argylle and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare as well as making a surprise cameo as Cavillrine in Marvel’s Deadpool & Wolverine. He’ll next be seen in Guy Ritchie’s In the Grey, and is also set to star as Connor MacLeod in John Wick director Chad Stahelski’s Highlander remake.
