It’s been quite the week for Henry Cavill. From the lows of being dropped as DC Studios’ Superman (just weeks after officially announcing his return following a Black Adam cameo opposite Dwayne Johnson), the British actor is now teaming with Vertigo Entertainment to bring Games Workshop’s Warhammer 40,000 to life on Amazon Prime Video.
Cavill, who is a huge fan of the tabletop miniature game, will executive produce a live-action series along with Roy Lee and Natalie Viscuso of Vertigo, with a view to expanding the scope to include feature films.
“I have loved Warhammer since I was a boy, making this moment truly special for me,” said Cavill. “The opportunity to shepherd this cinematic universe from its inception is quite the honour and the responsibility. I couldn’t be more grateful for all the hard work put in by Vertigo, Amazon Studios and Games Workshop to make this happen. One step closer to making a nigh on lifelong dream come true.”
“It’s great news and we’re absolutely thrilled; we’re working with a fantastic triumvirate in Henry, Vertigo, and Amazon. Henry’s well-known love of Warhammer 40,000—and his passion as a world-builder and storyteller—will serve us all well in the coming years. Finally, Warhammer will make it to the screen as the fans have hoped, and as they deserve. Exciting times!”
Mixing sci-fi and fantasy, Warhammer 40,000 has grown to become the most popular miniature wargame in the world, and takes place 40,000 years in the future where the militaristic humanity finds itself in perpetual conflict with a number of alien races and otherworldly threats.

As per THR, Amazon has secured the rights to the project after months of negotiations, which presumably explains Cavill’s recent exit from Netflix’s own fantasy series The Witcher, where he’ll be replaced by Liam Hemsworth for the fourth season.
