Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice star Henry Cavill is stepping away from capes and cowls for his next project, an action-thriller called Stratton.
Based on the novel series by Duncan Falconer, Stratton tells the story of a British spy with a lethal reputation. This actually isn’t the first time Cavill has flirted with the spy genre, as he almost played James Bond in Casino Royale before the role went to Daniel Craig.
Cavill will co-produce the film under his new Promethean Productions banner, along with Amber Entertainment and GFM Films. He had the following to say about the new project:
“Having the opportunity to expand my horizons into filmmaking is incredibly exciting. Getting to work so closely with my brother [who serves as co-producer] in this venture is equally so.”
Filming on Stratton begins in the spring, with production expected to take place in Italy, Rome and London. For a better idea on what the film could entail, here’s the synopsis for the first novel in the series, The Hunter:
When an undercover operation monitoring the Real IRA goes horrifically wrong, British Intelligence turn to the one man who can get their agent out: Stratton, SBS operative with a lethal reputation. It’s a dangerous race against time: if the Real IRA get to the Republic before Stratton gets to the Real IRA, his colleague is as good as dead.
But the battle in the Northern Ireland borders is just the beginning. For there can only be one way the Real IRA knew about the British agent: someone within MI5 is tipping them off. A surveillance mission is mounted in Paris to identify the mole but ends in disaster: Hank Munro, US Navy SEAL on secondment, is captured.
