Highlander reboot moving forward following script rewrite

March 3, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Earlier today we brought you the news that The Crow remake is moving forward for release in 2019, and now we have word that another long-gestating reboot is finally set to drag itself out of Development Hell.

According to Deadline, Lionsgate has given the green light to Highlander and is set to begin pre-production on the fantasy film later this year following a script rewriter by Ryan Condal (Colony), which is said to have left the studio “extremely pleased”.

John Wick helmer Chad Stahelski is set to direct the new Highlander, a remake of the 1986 cult classic which starred Christopher Lambert as Connor MacLeod of the Clan MacLeod, an immortal locked in an ages-old battle for the Prize.

Pre-production on Highlander will reportedly begin in October once Stahelski has finished work on John Wick: Chapter 3.

A remake of Highlander has been in development since 2008, passing through the hands of directors Justin Lin (Star Trek Beyond), Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later) and Cedric Nicolas-Troyan (The Huntsman: Winter’s War) before Stahelski boarded the project in November 2016.
