Jason Eisener, director of the cult exploitation thriller Hobo with a Shotgun, has signed on to direct an as-yet-untitled underwater thriller for 20th Century Fox.
The Tracking Board reports that the project “is taking a unique approach in that it’s attempting to reinvent the haunted house genre in a terrifying new way, described as a very individual spin on the horror genre, much like how Cloverfield was a new take on monster movies.”
The film is said to be similar in tone to Eisener’s short One Last Dive, and will feature first-person POV sequences and underwater action scenes.
Eisener got his breakthrough when his Hobo with a Shotgun trailer won a contest to feature in Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez’s Grindhouse double-bill. The trailer was adapted to a feature in 2011, while Eisener has since contributed segments to the anthology horrors The ABCs of Death and V/H/S/2.
