Kristian Nairn, who played the loveable Hodor in Game of Thrones, has revealed that he’s not a fan of celebrity cameos in the show, including Ed Sheeran’s.
When a show becomes as big as HBO’s Game of Thrones, there will be a large number of people eager to play a part, even if it’s just in a cameo appearance. But celebrities popping up in such instances can often be distracting for the viewer.
This is exactly the problem Hodor actor, Kristian Nairn, had with the cameo appearance of Ed Sheeran in Game of Thrones’ seventh season, and he told his thoughts to Huffington Post:
“I’m not a fan of the cameos in Game of Thrones. I don’t like them. I think it’s stupid. I don’t mind going on the record on that. I just think it takes you right out of the world. Especially Ed Sheeran. I was like, ‘Why is Ed Sheeran here?’ I mean, Ed Sheeran’s great. He’s a great guy, great musician, but why is he in Game of Thrones? I’m not saying I’m not a fan of Ed Sheeran. I’m being tactful here, but just not a fan of the cameo. I think most people would agree with me there. It was a big snap to reality. It’s like, ‘What? What?’ It’s a fantasy show. We’re all caught in this amazing world and spend so much time and money and talent to create, and all of a sudden there’s a pop star? What?”
What do you guys think? Is Nairn on the money with his analysis of Sheeran’s cameo in the show, or do you think he’s over exaggerating the impact it had on the viewer?
