Hornet’s Sting Update bring new jet fighters to War Thunder

March 21, 2025 by Andrew Newton

Gaijin Entertainment has released the new Hornet’s Sting update for their massive multiplayer online shooter War Thunder.  This latest update introduces new jet fighters from China, Russia and the US as well as plenty of other military vehicles.  Watch the new trailer below to see more of these new vehicles.

Introduced in this latest update is the F/A-18 “Hornet” jet, used extensively by the United States and Sweden.  This jet has great flight performance and can carry a wide variety of missiles and bombs, both guided and conventional.  Joining this is the Su-30SM, an advanced twin-engine Russian fighter capable of accelerating to Mach 2.  Those jumping into this craft’s cockpit will find a passive electronically scanned array (PESA radar) and multi-function displays.  Finally, the J-11B is a Chinese modernisation of Su-27 fighters imported from Russia.  This jet has a great amount of thrust in afterburner mode and is able to equip a mix of Russian and domestic high precision missiles and guided bombs.

For those who like to keep their feet firmly on the ground, the new 2S19 Msta-S, self-propelled 152 mm howitzer is available.  This vehicle has an automatic loader with a good selection of shells, including a HE-VT shell, a HEAT shell and an APHEBC shell.  Although it has immense firepower and a good reload speed, it is lightly armoured, so finding a good position away from the watchful eyes of enemies is recommended.

There’s been a huge amount of vehicles added with this update, including the the Tracked Rapier SAM and the USS Colorado super-dreadnought featuring 16 inch guns, so it’s worth checking out the game’s changelog here.
