Another year, another take on the long-running Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise. This time, director of 2013’s Evil Dead Fede Alvarez is tackling the world of Leatherface and family.
As initially reported by horror website BloodyDisgusting.com, Alvarez is teaming up with original producer Kim Henkel and Legendary Pictures to produce a follow-up to the original film. Much like what Blumhouse did with the latest Halloween, this new film will continue to ignore other sequels and follow up on the story from the classic slasher.
With the original final girl actress Marilyn Burns, who played Sally Hardesty, passing away in 2014, little is known on how they will keep the story going although it will presumably continue to focus on the Sawyer Family and their cannibal antics.
Alvarez is not directing the latest chainsaw outing; instead, he is actively looking for a director to tackle this series.
Reports also say that Legendary Pictures also wants to turn the Texas Chainsaw Massacre into a television series. Keep an eye out for Leatherface and his twisted family on a network or streaming service near you.
