House of the Dragon season 2 has wrapped production

September 29, 2023 by Ricky Church

As things in Hollywood slowly get back to a level of normalcy now the the WGA strike has concluded and SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP are heading back to the negotiating table on Monday, HBO’s Game of Thrones spin-off House of the Dragon, one of the very few productions not to have been affected by either strike, has wrapped production on its second season.

The writers for House of the Dragon completed their scripts prior to the WGA’s strike and with most of the show’s cast being based throughout Europe and part of the Actor’s Equity union, production on the anticipated second season was able to continue. Now Steve Toussaint, who plays Corlys Velaryon, the Lord of the Tides and also known as The Sea Snake, has confirmed through a post on his Instagram filming has ended.

Toussaint wrote “‘And that’s a wrap on Steve!’ What a blast to work with such great people! Now it’s in the hands of editors, SFX folk, and whoever else. Hope you like it when you eventually get to see it!”

House of the Dragon takes place over 200 years before Game of Thrones when the Targaryen dynasty was at the height of its power in Westeros, but a civil war over the Iron Throne erupted in the family which would have long-lasting consequences for the Targaryens, setting the stage for their eventual downfall in the years prior to Thrones.

The series is based off George R. R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, a fictional history book in Westeros detailing the events of the Dance of the Dragons, the official name for the Targaryen civil war. Martin has said the book is a historian’s interpretation of the war while the show is what happened canonically.

House of the Dragon is said to be premiering in Summer 2024.

Based on George R.R. Martin’s “Fire & Blood,” the series, which is set 200 years before the events of “Game of Thrones,” tells the story of House Targaryen.

House of the Dragon features a cast that includes Paddy Considine (The Outsider), Matt Smith (Doctor Who), Milly Alcock (Upright), Emily Carey (Casualty), Olivia Cooke (Ready Player One), Emma D’Arcy (Truth Seekers), Rhys Ifans (The Amazing Spider-Man), Steve Toussaint (Small Axe), Eve Best (Nurse Jackie), Fabien Frankel (The Serpent), Sonoya Minuzo (Crazy Rich Asians) and Graham McTavish (Outlander). Season two will feature Simon Russell Beale (The Outfit), Freddie Fox (Slow Horses), Gayle Rankin (GLOW) and Abubakar Salim (Raised by Wolves).
