Having already resided over one 90s reboot with the forthcoming House Party update, Charles Kidd II, aka Calmatic, has been given the keys to the court for another high-profile 90s property with the remake of Woody Harrelson and Wesley Snipes basketball comedy White Men Can’t Jump.
According to Deadline, Calmatic has been tapped to direct a reboot of White Men Can’t Jump for 20th Century, working from a script written by Kenya Barris and Doug Hall. A stalwart of the music-video industry, Calmatic has directed videos for the likes of Pharrell and Khalid, but is perhaps most well known for his breakout video for Lil Nas X’s blockbuster song ‘Old Town Road’.
White Men Can’t Jump was released in 1992 and was written and directed by sports drama specialist Ron Shelton, who also helmed Play It to the Bone, Tin Cup, and Bull Durham. It starred Woody Harrelson and Wesley Snipes as a pair of basketball hustlers working the courts of Los Angeles for a living. It was pretty well received and went on to gross $90M worldwide.
