Howard the Duck almost made an appearance in Avengers: Infinity War

August 14, 2018 by Gary Collinson

After popping up in Guardians of the Galaxy and its sequel, it turns out that Howard the Duck almost made his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe earlier this year, with Avengers: Infinity War directors Anthony and Joe Russo revealing to Fandom that he came close to making a cameo appearance in this year’s superhero epic.

“Howard the Duck was in one draft of the script,” said Anthony. “Howard the Duck actually had a really good scene… we were going to cameo with [The Hangover and Community star] Ken Jeong, with Howard the Duck. That was a much-beloved scene by us but it just didn’t end up fitting at all.”

“It was Peter Quill trying to track down some information from Howard the Duck on some outlier planet and interrupting him during a poker game,” explained Joe.

“There were lots of ideas and iterations that were on the floor for this one but I think we would end up in the correct place,” added Anthony. “It’s all a process. Sometimes you are actually just writing a bible to the universe of what that movie is and have to pare it down to what the actual narrative is.”

While Howard didn’t make the final cut of Avengers: Infinity War, the Russos have previously confirmed that the character was fortunate enough to survive Thanos’ Snap, so maybe we’ll get to see him popping up in Avengers 4 next year?

An unprecedented cinematic journey ten years in the making and spanning the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Infinity War” brings to the screen the ultimate, deadliest showdown of all time. The Avengers and their Super Hero allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe.

Avengers: Infinity War stars Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier), Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Paul Bettany (Vision), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Don Cheadle (War Machine), Josh Brolin (Thanos), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Benedict Wong (Wong), Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Bradley Cooper (Rocket), Sean Gunn (Rocket), Vin Diesel (Groot), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Samuel L.
