According to The Wrap, streaming service Hulu is looking to develop a shared John Grisham universe, beginning with TV adaptations of the novels The Rainmaker and Rogue Lawyer.
Michael Seitzman and Jason Richman are on board to write and executive produce the two companion series, which are said to be designed in such a way that the audience can watch each season independently, but they will also intersect at certain points, as well as sharing some characters.
The 1995 novel The Rainmaker was previously adapted for the big screen in 1997, with Matt Damon starring as a young lawyer who takes on a corrupt multinational to expose a complex insurance scam. Rogue Lawyer meanwhile was published in 2015 an follows an unconventional lawyer who is contacted by a serial kidnapper regarding the whereabouts of the assistant chief of police’s missing daughter.
ABC Signature Studios is producing both series, while Grisham is also attached as an executive producer.
