Last year it was announced that IDW Entertainment were developing a small screen adaptation of Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez’s acclaimed comic book series Locke & Key, and now comes word that Hulu has officially placed a pilot order, with Carlton Cuse (Lost) set to executive produce and showrun and Scott Derrickson (Doctor Strange) directing.
Locke & Key tells of Keyhouse, an unlikely New England mansion, with fantastic doors that transform all who dare to walk through them… and home to a hate-filled and relentless creature that will not rest until it forces open the most terrible door of them all!
“I love this story,” said Hill during last year’s announcement. “The seven years I spent working on Locke & Key was the happiest creative experience of my life and there still isn’t a day when I don’t think about those characters and miss visiting with them. The six books of the series are very like six seasons of a cable TV series and so it feels only natural to bring that world to the little screen and to see if we can’t scare the pants off viewers everywhere.”
This will be the second time that Locke & Key has made it to pilot, with Mark Romanek directing a cast that included Miranda Otto, Sarah Bolger, Jesse McCartney, Nick Stahl and Ksenia Solo back in 2011 for 20th Century Fox TV and DreamWorks TV.
