Hulu has passed on the Locke & Key pilot, but it’s being shopped to other outlets

March 29, 2018 by Gary Collinson

It seems that the latest attempt to adapt Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez’s comic book series Locke & Key for the small screen could be going the way of the 2011 Fox TV pilot, which failed to make it to series.

Speaking to Cultured Vultures, actress Samantha Mathis has revealed that: “I did a pilot for Hulu called Locke & Key, but it didn’t get picked up by Hulu. It’s getting shopped around to Amazon and Netflix and Apple and everyone right now. Who knows, maybe that will end up some place.”

Locke & Key revolves around three siblings who move with their mother to their ancestral home in Maine following the gruesome murder of their father, and soon discover that the house has magical keys that give them a vast array of powers and abilities. However, little do they know, a devious demon also wants the keys, and will stop at nothing to attain them.

This pilot was directed by Andy Muschietti (It) with Carlton Cuse (Bates Motel) and Scott Derrickson (Doctor Strange) producing, and starred Frances O’Connor (The Conjuring 2) as mother Nina Locke.

In addition to the two TV pilots, a movie adaptation of Locke & Key was in the works back in 2014, although it too failed to come to fruition.
