Robert Downey Jr. is following in the footsteps of James Gunn by swapping the Marvel universe for DC… well, sort of, as his production company Team Downey is set to produce a pilot for an adaptation of the comic book series Sweet Tooth, published by DC imprint Vertigo.
Created by Jeff Lemire, Sweet Tooth is a coming of age drama which follows Gus, “a boy/deer hybrid who leaves home to find the world ravaged by a cataclysmic event. He joins up with ragtag family of hybrids and humans and winds up discovering a vast conspiracy.”
Hulu has granted a pilot order for the project, which is being produced by Team Downey and Warner Bros. Television, while Jim Mickle (Hap and Leonard, In the Shadow of the Moon) is set to direct.
Sweet Tooth is the second Lemire comic to be picked up in recent days, with Legendary Entertainment snapping up the rights to his Dark Horse superhero series Black Hammer with a view to developing interconnected film and TV projects.
