The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Joe Kelly and J.M. Ken Niimura’s acclaimed comic book series I Kill Giants is set for a big screen adaptation courtesy of Oscar-winning director Anders Walter (Helium) and producer Chris Columbus (Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone).
I Kill Giants revolves around a young girl who finds an escape from reality courtesy of a fantasy life filled with magic and monsters. Published by Image Comics between 2008 and 2009, the series was named one of the best graphic novels of 2010 by the Young Adult Library Services Association, and also picked up the Gold Award at the International Manga Awards.
“[I’m] overwhelmed by the enthusiasm, vision and sheer talent of the team we’ve assemble,” said Kelly, who will also write the script for the movie. “Chris and Anders understand the book on an instinctive level and will translate it into a hell of a film. I could not be happier.”
