According to Variety, the UK’s WestEndFilms is teaming up with Australia’s WBMC for an English language remake of the Icelandic dramedy Rams. The project is being penned by screenwriter Jules Duncan, and is slated to shoot in Western Australia.
Directed by Grimur Hakonarson, the original film takes place in a remote Icelandic farming valley and follows two brothers who haven’t spoken to each other for 40 years, but are forced to come together to save what is dearest to them both – their sheep. The hit film received the Un Certain Regard Award at the Cannes Film Festival in 2015.
The Rams remake will mark the first collaboration between WestEnd and WBMC, who have recently announced a strategic partnership to co-finance and co-develop new material, including projects for the WeLove brand, which is aimed at delivering high-quality commercial films aimed at a female audience and created by female talent.
