According to Variety, British star Idris Elba (Luther) has optioned the rights to Marc Olden’s historical thriller Poe Must Die, and is planning to develop a trilogy of films based upon the book.
The 1978 novel is set in 1840s New York, and sees Edgar Allen Poe battling demonic forces and personal demons as he teams with a renowned fighter out for revenge against a evil sorcerer who murdered his wife. There’s no word yet if Elba will star, or merely produce through his Green Door production company.
As well as returning to the role of John Luther for two upcoming BBC specials, Elba has numerous projects incoming, including Beasts of No Nation, A Hundred Streets, The Gunman, Bastille Day and Avengers: Age of Ultron, along with voice work in The Jungle Book and Finding Dory.
