IDW has announced that it is set to launch a brand new Highlander comic book miniseries, which will serve as a prequel to the 1986 cult classic starring Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery.
“In the 30 years since its release, Highlander has inspired a massive cult following that craves new stories based on the original film,” senior editor Denton J. Tipton said. “Many have tried, to varying degrees of success, but Brian has crafted an exciting narrative that will honor and bolster the underpinnings of Highlander. Also, epic sword fights!”
“We are thrilled for this partnership with IDW, as they have a tremendously talented team who will be creating a story that is both authentic to the original Highlander film and innovative to attract new fans alike,” added Brent Marlis of Creative Licensing.
The miniseries will be written by Brian Ruckley, with art from Andrea Mutti (Rebels), and explores “onnor MacLeod’s journey, both physical and internal, that led him to become humanity’s immortal champion. From medieval Scotland to Civil War-era Pennsylvania to mid-century Manhattan, readers will meet compelling new characters, such as immortal Osta Vazilek, and revisit fan favorites.”
Look for Highlander in February 2017.
