TV Line has revealed that Freeform has granted a put pilot commitment to an immigration-themed reboot of the 90s family drama Party of Five.
The original series follows five siblings who become orphans after their parents are killed in a car accident. However, the reboot – which is being produced by original series creators Chris Keyser and Amy Lippman – will instead focus on the Buendias children, a Mexican-American family who have to survive in America when their parents are suddenly deported.
Party of Five premiered in 1994 and ran for six season on Fox. The cast included the likes of Matthew Fox, Scott Wolf, Neve Campbell, Lacey Chabert and Jennifer Love Hewitt. It received a Golden Globe for Best Television Series – Drama, and also spawned the 1999 spinoff Time of Your Life, which ran for just one season.
