Indiana Jones 5 confirmed for 2019; Harrison Ford and Steven Spielberg to return

March 15, 2016 by Scott J. Davis

After years of speculation about the future of Indiana Jones, Disney has today officially announced a fifth adventure for the iconic hero, with both Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford returning.

Many rumours have circulated in the year’s since 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, with Harrison Ford saying he “would love to do another one” back in November, while producer Frank Marshall said last year that Indy “wouldn’t go down the Bond route and recast” the role after rumours spread in early 2015 that Guardians of the Galaxy and Jurassic World star Chris Pratt was in the running to take over from Ford. Spielberg then weighed in saying that “only one actor would play Indiana Jones and that’s Harrison Ford”.

But today Disney Chairman Alan Horn officially announced the new film, saying:

“Indiana Jones is one of the greatest heroes in cinematic history, and we can’t wait to bring him back to the screen in 2019…..It’s rare to have such a perfect combination of director, producers, actor and role, and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on this adventure with Harrison and Steven.”

Spielberg, the man in the director’s chair for the previous four installments which together grossed almost $2 billion, will helm the as-yet-untitled project with producers Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall also returning. Ford will be 77 years old when the film is released.

Indiana Jones 5 will hit the big screen on July 19, 2019.
