After countless delays, screenwriters, and even a change in director with Logan’s James Mangold replacing franchise mainstay Steven Spielberg, Harrison Ford’s Indiana Jones is set to grace the big screen one final time in 2023 for the as-yet-untitled fifth instalment in the classic adventure series.
As we await the first trailer, Empire Magazine has peeled back the curtain on Indiana Jones 5 a little, confirming that the movie takes place in 1969 against the backdrop of the space race and moon landing. It is also inspired by the real-life Operation Paperclip, where the U.S. government enlisted former Nazi scientists and engineers for its space programme following the conclusion of World War II.
One of these “ex” Nazis in Indiana Jones 5 is Voller, played by Mads Mikkelsen, “a man who would like to correct some of the mistakes of the past”, who is featured in a first-look image from Empire along with images of his henchman Klaber (Boyd Holbrook), Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Helena, and Ford’s Indy. Indiana Jones 5 is directed by James Mangold (Logan) and sees Harrison Ford returning as Indy for the fifth and final time alongside Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag), Thomas Kretschmann (Avengers: Age of Ultron), Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal), Antonio Banderas (Pain and Glory) and Toby Jones (Captain America: The Winter Soldier).
Indiana Jones 5 is set for release on June 30th 2023.
