After years of delays and false starts, it looks Indiana Jones is finally ready to ride again as Deadline reports that the long-gestating Indiana Jones 5 is set to begin production next week in the UK.
It has been previously reported Paramount and Logan director James Mangold, who is taking over after Steven Spielberg opted not to return to the director’s chair for Indy’s fifth outing, had been planning a summer 2021 shoot. The film is apparently scheduled to at last begin production next week at Pinewood Studios and other locations around the UK.
Plot details have been kept under wraps, but recent rumours have suggested the film will take place in the 1960s and involve Indiana Jones and the Space Race between the United States and Soviet Union. According to these rumours, Mads Mikkelsen, who stars as the film’s villain, will be a former Nazi scientist recruited by the CIA to help them win the race, pitting Indy against his old archenemies once again.
Indiana Jones 5 is set for release on July 29th 2022, with James Mangold directing and Harrison Ford reprising his role as Indy alongside Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag), Mads Mikkelsen (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), Thomas Kretschmann (Avengers: Age of Ultron), Boyd Holbrook (Logan) and Shaunette Renee Wilson (Black Panther).
