Insidious star Lin Shaye casts doubt on a fifth instalment

July 13, 2020 by Liam Waddington

Lin Shaye, who is known for playing Elise Rainier in the Insidious franchise, has cast doubt that creator James Wan will develop the fifth instalment in the series, or at least her character won’t be appearing in future films.

In a discussion on The Production Meeting podcast, Shaye claimed that Wan previously had an outline for the fifth movie but doubts the franchise will be returning any time soon and believes her character’s story is over.

“No, I think she’s over,” Shaye said. “There was some idea [for a sequel], actually James at one point said he had an outline for number five which would have probably gone back to the original family, which I thought was a great idea. But Elise’s story is pretty much done. They told my story. I would be in The Further if it happened. I don’t think they’ll do another.”

The first two films in the Insidious series focused on the horrors endured by a family led by frequent James Wan collaborator Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne – which Shaye claimed the fifth film would have revisited. However, the next two instalments shifted the focus onto Shaye’s character and her backstory.

Would you like to see the fifth instalment in the Insidious franchise? Do you think we will get a new film in the future? Let us know in the comments below or tweet us @flickeringmyth…
