The boys will always be bad, and now, there’s a new player in the game as Deadline reports Ioan Gruffudd will star in Bad Boys 4 alongside Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. While yet to be officially confirmed, the site notes that Gruffudd will play “Lockwood, a high-profile attorney running for election.”
Little is known about the film’s plot, as details are being kept under wraps for the Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah-directed film. The filmmaking duo helmed the third installment, Bad Boys: For Life, and recently directed the Batgirl film that was shelved forever by DC Studio executives. Long-time producer Jerry Bruckheimer is set to return as well.
The Bad Boys franchise has proven a massive hit for Sony Pictures, netting over $841M worldwide, with each film making more than the previous entry. 2020’s Bad Boys for Life was released right before the pandemic, grossing $426.5 million worldwide, becoming the third highest-grossing January release of all time.
As many will recall, this will be Will Smith’s most significant project following the now-infamous incident at the 2022 Oscars. Returning to one of his most beloved franchises is a sure-fire way to bypass any negatives from The Slap and fit right back into the Hollywood machine.
Bad Boys 4 is now in production.
