Deadline is reporting that Isaac Asimov’s hugely influential Foundation series could be heading to the small screen, with Skydance Television tapping David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight Trilogy) and Josh Friedman (War of the Worlds) to take a crack at adapting the books for TV.
Originally launching as a series of short stories in Astounding Magazine beginning in 1942, Foundation follows a psycho-historian living under the rule of the Galactic Empire who foresees its imminent collapse and sets out to preserve mankind’s knowledge by assembling a group of talented artisans and engineers to serve as the foundation for a new society.
There have been several previous attempts at adapting Foundation for the screen, with Fox, Warner Bros. and Sony all attempting to develop feature films, and HBO working on a series with Roland Emmerich (Independence Day) and Jonathan Nolan (Westworld).
