After making a successful parody of rom-coms, the studio behind Isn’t It Romantic is looking to spice things up. This time, they want to scare audiences.
Deadline reports that New Line Cinema is in early development on Isn’t It Scary, a spin-off of their 2019 film starring Rebel Wilson.
April Prosser will pen the script. At the time of writing, Todd Garner will produce for Broken Road Productions alongside Gina Mathews and Grant Scharbo of Little Engine Entertainment.
Much like the original outing, the sequel Isn’t It Scary is looking to take a similarly meta approach, riffing on the tropes of the horror genre. Think a little Scream mixed with The Final Girls.
Writer April Prosser is best known for Look Both Ways, a rom-com starring Lili Reinhart. Since that dropped in August 2022, she was tapped to write The Rewind for Netflix and Plus One for Amazon.
The 2019 comedy Isn’t It Romantic, directed by Todd Strauss-Schulson and starring Rebel Wilson, was written by Erin Cardillo, Dana Fox, and Katie Silberman. The film’s supporting cast included Liam Hemsworth, Adam, Devine, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Betty Gilpin, and Brandon Scott Jones.
