It Chapter Two is set to have a massive debut when it arrives in cinemas, with projections of $130 million-plus for its opening weekend.
It was a huge critical and commercial success, bringing in a massive $700 million after a $127 million domestic opening weekend. The film is currently the fourth highest-grossing R-rated film of all time, with the third-highest opening. Deadpool sits in first place with $132 million.
The sequel, It Chapter Two, could be set to surpass its predecessor, however, with Boxoffice Pro projecting that it will bring in over $130 million in its opening weekend. Their chief analyst Shawn Robbins writes:
“With director Andy Muschietti returning, the promise of this being the end of the story, and — perhaps most intriguingly — an ensemble cast with several popular adult actors the likes of Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, and Bill Hader taking over their kid counterpart roles, there may arguably be just as much of a ‘must see’ status for Chapter Two as there was for the first film. Perhaps, initially, even more of one.
“As always, long-term playability will come down to word of mouth and how fans feel the story does justice to Stephen King’s complete novel once the narrative of both films are completely wrapped. Online buzz and social media trends following the first trailer release have been nothing short of positive, which are good indicators that It Chapter Two not only has a chance to reach $100 million or more in its debut again, but it may have a fair shot at the R-rated benchmark held by the aforementioned Deadpool.”

They put the low-end projections at a healthy $110 million but at the high end, it could score as much as $150 million. Their official projection is $136 million opening for a domestic total of $305 million.
Because every 27 years evil revisits the town of Derry, Maine, “It Chapter Two” brings the characters—who’ve long since gone their separate ways—back together as adults, nearly three decades after the events of the first film.
It Chapter Two will see Bill Skarsgard reprising his role as Pennywise the Dancing Clown, while Jessica Chastain (Beverly), James McAvoy (Bill), Bill Hader (Richie), James Ransone (Eddie), Andy Bean (Stanley), Jay Ryan (Ben) and Isaiah Mustafa (Mike) star as the adult versions of The Losers’ Club. Young It stars Jaeden Martell, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Sophia Lillis, Finn Wolfhard, Wyatt Oleff, Jack Dylan Grazer and Chosen Jacobs are also set to reprise their roles from the first movie in flashback sequences. It is set for release on September 6th 2019.
