Coming off the wildly-acclaimed horror film It Follows, and the underrated black comedy Under The Silver Lake, director David Robert Mitchell looks to venture into another genre. The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that MGM has picked up Mitchell’s directorial effort Heroes & Villains, an upcoming film based in the world of superheroes.
THR describes the film as a “genre-blending and genre-bending project” that will see Mitchell serve as the writer as well. “Details are being kept hidden in a secret headquarters but it is described as a new take on superheroes,” the site adds. The producers noted in the article are Good Fear Content’s Chris Bender and Jake Weiner.
Reports say that David Robert Mitchell has been working on his take on the ever-popular genre for quite some time now. Mitchell is said to have finished the script and now expects casting to begin shortly.
The deal follows multiple new movie acquisitions for MGM that includes Lady Gaga’s Gucci and Andy Weir’s next book Project Hail Mary, his follow-up to The Martian. All of this headed by new film chairman Michael De Luca, who served as a producer for Mitchell’s 2018 film Under The Silver Lake.
