J.J Abrams fielded some more questions from the media regarding Star Wars (while also promoting his upcoming Stephen King project entitled 11.22.63 and Cameron Crowe’s Roadies), but as you would expect, the majority of the inquiries were about Star Wars: The Force Awakens and his knowledge of the cultural phenomenon’s eighth installment.
Everyone’s fascination seems to concern the heritage of Rey, but Abrams isn’t going to be the one spilling any beans, stating “I know quite a bit, but obviously, it’s not for me to talk about in this moment because this is Rian Johnson’s story now and the last thing I want to do is reveal something he’ll get upset about.”
Abrams was also asked if he was forced to kill off Harrison Ford’s Han Solo (you have absolutely no reason to have not seen the film already if you’re truly a Star Wars fan), to which he replied “First of all, I didn’t kill Harrison Ford. Just for the record, but we knew we needed to do something that was bold and maybe unexpected.”
So there you have it Han Solo fans, redirect your hate mail and your J.J. Abrams death threats elsewhere.
Filming has recently just begun on Star Wars: Episode VIII which will see Rian Johnson (Looper) taking over directing duties, and is scheduled to arrive on May 26th 2017. However, we won’t have to wait that long for our next Star Wars movie, with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story set to arrive on December 16th 2016.
