Last month, young actor Anton Yelchin tragically lost his life in a freak automobile accident, and now producer J.J. Abrams has confirmed that Yelchin won’t be replaced in the role of Chekov for the fourth Star Trek film, which was just announced yesterday.
““I would say there’s no replacing him. There’s no recasting. I can’t possibly imagine that, and I think Anton deserves better,” Abrams told Postmedia Network, before revealing that discussions are ongoing with screenwriters J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay as to how they will deal with the loss of Yelchin within the script.
Star Trek Beyond is set to open in cinemas this Friday, July 22nd, with Yelchin joined in the cast b Chris Pine as James Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Simon Pegg as Scotty, Zoë Saldana as Uhura, Karl Urban as Bones and John Cho as Sulu alongside new additions Idris Elba (Luther), Sofia Boutella (Kingsman: The Secret Service), Joe Taslim (The Raid), Lydia Wilson (About Time) and Shohreh Aghdashloo (House of Sand and Fog).
