The upcoming Godzilla x Kong sequel has gained a new member to its cast as Jack O’Connell (Ferrari) joins the film.
Character details are being kept under wraps, but O’Connell will star alongside Kaitlyn Dever (The Last of Us) and Dan Stevens, who will reprise his role from Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire as specialized Titan vet Trapper Beasley.
The film is the next installment of Legendary’s Monsterverse, which began with 2014’s Godzilla and gradually built up to Godzilla and King Kong’s face off in Godzilla vs. Kong. In that time, Legendary has also developed the Apple TV+ series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters which is both a prequel to and continuation of Monsterverse’s first Godzilla film. Last year Apple renewed Monarch for a second season, which is currently in development.
O’Connell is most known for his roles in Michael Mann’s Ferrari as well as the Amy Winehouse biopic Back in Black. He will be seen later this year in Ryan Coogler’s vampire film Sinners opposite Michael B. Jordan and in Danny Boyle’s anticipated 28 Years Later.
Grant Sputore will direct this new Godzilla x Kong title based on a script by Dave Callaham. Details are unknown, but it is described as “a continuation of the franchise centering Godzilla, Kong, and an assortment of other Titans.”
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire brought in $571.9 million worldwide and became the franchise’s highest-grossing installment as well as the highest-grossing Godzilla film of all time. The Monsterverse has grossed over $2.5 billion to date at the global box office.
